Strikethrough text generator
Draw a line through your text with Unicode combining characters, then paste it into apps that have no strikethrough option.
Styled text is made of decorative Unicode characters. Screen readers may read it letter by letter or skip it.

How to use it
- Type the text you want to cross out.
- Choose a full strikethrough, a short strike, a slash or a wavy tilde line. Underline and overline styles are in the same Lines group.
- Press Copy.
- Paste the result, and check the length if the place you paste into has a character limit.
Where to use it
- Showing an old price next to a new one in a post
- Jokes that cross out the first thing you meant to say
- Marking finished items in plain-text lists and notes
- Showing a correction openly instead of deleting the mistake
Strikethrough styles compared
- Strikethrough (N̶o̶t̶ t̶o̶d̶a̶y̶) draws a long line through the middle of each letter. It is the most familiar look.
- Short Strikethrough (N̵o̵t̵ t̵o̵d̵a̵y̵) uses a shorter stroke that covers the letter but leaves small gaps. Some fonts draw it more neatly than the long version.
- Slashed (N̸o̸t̸ t̸o̸d̸a̸y̸) crosses each letter with a diagonal slash, a stronger “no” than a straight line.
- Tilde Overlay (N̴o̴t̴ t̴o̴d̴a̴y̴) puts a wavy line through the letters, a softer, more playful cross-out.
The same technique also gives underline, double underline, overline, dotted and wavy underline, and an X above each letter. You will find them all under the Lines category.
Compatibility notes
These are Unicode combining characters, not a font file and not formatting. Most modern apps on Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac display them, but the result depends heavily on the font: lines can sit slightly high or low, look thicker on some letters, or fail to join. Some platforms strip combining marks from names or search fields.
Screen readers usually read the letters and either ignore the marks or announce each one, which can be noisy. In-app search may not find crossed-out words.
Frequently asked questions
How does Unicode strikethrough work?
The letters stay normal. After each character, a combining mark is added, such as the long stroke overlay U+0336. Your device draws that mark across the character in front of it, which looks like a line through the text.
Why does the line have gaps?
Each character gets its own short line, and spaces are left without one, so the line breaks between words. How smoothly the pieces join depends on the font of the app where you paste the text.
Does strikethrough text make my message longer?
Yes. Every character gets an extra combining mark, so the text uses about twice as many characters. A 20-letter phrase becomes about 40 characters, which matters in bios and other fields with a limit.
How do I strike through text in WhatsApp, Discord or Word?
Use their own formatting when it exists. In WhatsApp, put a tilde on each side, like ~this~. In Discord, use two tildes on each side, like ~~this~~. In Word or Google Docs, use the strikethrough button. That gives a clean, continuous line.
Does it work with emoji and accented letters?
Accented letters work, because the line is simply added on top. Over emoji, the line is often drawn in an odd place or not at all, so keep emoji outside the crossed-out part.
